Technology
I do online because it gives me the freedom to be with my family at night. I work a full time job during the day so it is hard to sit in classes. Although, it is coming down to where I will have to start taking a few of my classes in person and change my work schedule around. I am lucky that my work is willing to let me do this. Online learning takes discipline. Not that you don’t need discipline to go to class and stay on task, but doing online you are solely responsible for staying on track and looking at the assignment tab in blackboard. I feel there is a lot more personal responsibility involved. You need to have knowledge of technology in order to do the online programs as well. This English class has been more involved than any other classes I have taken online, but after I understood how to do the blog it wasn’t too bad. Some of my other classmates definitely made theirs look much nicer and better graphics were used, but I felt okay with how mine turned out. The challenges to taking an English class online are probably not getting the input of your peers. Having peer review is helpful and in a classroom setting you would get more of that. I think the most beneficial technology was learning about how to link and add an image into my blog. I had never done this before and found it to be very interesting to learn. The technology I think I liked the most was probably adding a hyperlink to the assignments before submitting them, that is once I figured out what I was doing wrong, it didn’t take long but I thought that was great to be able to just click on the link to go right to the post. I will use this in the future as well. Learning the new tricks in technology is always fun to me.

Toni, good post this week. Thank you for your sharing. I agree with you about the flexibility that online gives you. Especially when you have a family and a job. Online classes gives us that opportunity to juggle things. Also, I agree with you, once I got things figured out for this class and technology it got a little less stressful. I was a little concerned going into this class, because it was my first online class. I was more worried about me keeping the right pace. I was able to keep up so it was all good.
ReplyDeleteI agree that in a sense it takes more discipline than going to class. I know, for me, it was hard to work, go to school and take care of my family. I love that I can work on this when I have time, as long as it's done by the deadline. Good luck to you and your future classes. :)

ReplyDeleteI agree working full time and continuing education is not easy, Thank goodness for online college. With me living an hour and half away from Prescott it would be impossible for me to go back to school. I was really impressed with your power point, nice work. I think I forgot we were supposed to do that. oops! It is great getting to learn all the technology, I just wish there wasn't so much of it. Good luck with your future.

Hello there!!! I liked your post because i felt like I could really relate! I too work and online classes make it so easy to be able to do both school and work. I love the fact that they are so flexible and work around my schedule! Im not much of a techy either so trying to set up a blog was painful! ha! Looks like we both accomplished it though and survived!!
ReplyDeleteI would definitely have to agree that it requires more discipline to do an online course. I, like you have a job so this also allows me more freedom to work on the assignments on my own schedule. Not having an instructor available right away when something is not clear can be a problem sometimes, but it gives me the opportunity to try and think outside the box and try to solve the issue on my own.
ReplyDeleteToni, you make a great point, by using the technology online for this English class, it makes it more involved, hyperlinks were a great tool to use during the duration of the class. Came in handy.
